The sixth seed Ohio Roller Girls from Columbus, Ohio looked to continue their Cinderella story at 2103 WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs Fort Wayne on Sunday. Having already booked their ticket to Championships, they were looking to upset the number one seed, the Denver Roller Dolls of Denver Colorado, and earn a first round bye at the Milwaukee tournament in November. The Denver Roller Dolls, having never advanced to Championships in the first place spot from the previous region playoff system, were not about to let Ohio have that glory. Ohio managed to keep it close for a while, but they succumbed to Denver’s finessed pack play and fell to the Colorado team 304-134.

In what has become a classic playoff match up, Montreal Roller Derby from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, took on the London Rollergirls from London, United Kingdom, for third place an opportunity to play in the 2013 WFTDA Championships this year. Neither team has made it to Championships in previous years and either would be the WFTDA’s first competitor from outside the United States at the organization's marquee tournament. London’s walls, dogged persistence and recycling would see the English team advance to Championships this year and earn third place at this Playoff, finishing the game 101 points ahead of their Canadian counter parts, 230-129.

These two teams have never played each other but both finished their respective region playoffs last year in ninth place, Wasatch in the now defunct Western Region and Cincinnati in North Central.
