WFTDA Releases June 30 Rankings, Tournament Brackets

July 12, 2013

Today, the WFTDA is excited to announce the highly anticipated June 30, 2013 rankings of its member leagues. These rankings reflect the results of games played through the end of June. The output of the WFTDA Rankings Calculator were confirmed by member league vote.

These rankings are used to seed the brackets for the WFTDA Division 1 and Division 2 Playoffs. The WFTDA Playoffs and Championships bring together the most talented, highly trained and committed skaters and officials from WFTDA member leagues to display the “Real, Strong, Athletic and Revolutionary” game play that pushes the limits of the sport worldwide. Whether participating on the track, cheering in the stands or watching online, the WFTDA tournaments provide everyone who loves roller derby an opportunity to witness the most anticipated match-ups of the year.

This will be the first year that WFTDA Playoffs are not set by geographic region, resulting in match-ups of teams that have never before met in a Playoffs setting. The addition of the D2 Playoffs also adds 20 more teams into the WFTDA tournament mix, creating exciting new events for women's roller derby fans.

The D1 Playoffs include the top 40 teams in the WFTDA that met minimum game play requirements during the regular season. Teams were split among the four Playoffs brackets using “S-curve” seeding, similar to what is used for the NCAA basketball tournaments.
