Rose City Rollers from Portland Oregon, fresh off of their win against Grand Raggidy Roller Girls in the morning, took on the Cincinnati Rollergirls from Cincinnati, Ohio and secured their spot in the fifth place game tomorrow at 2pm with a score of 414-116. While Cincinnati adapted throughout the bout, the team from Portland just proved too strong for the Ohio team.
The Rose City jammer rotation of Scald Eagle, Mutch Mayhem, and Licker’N’Split scored 109 in the first nine jams with Scald Eagle scoring a record 45 points in a single jam while the Rose City blockers kept Cincinnati jammers, K Lethal, and Wheezy scoreless In the tenth jam, Cincinnati put together a series of stronger jams starting with K Lethal, managing to pick up lead for Cincinnati and was determined to score at least four points before she called it off. Scratcher in the Eye picked up 6 points for Rose City in the same jam. Two jams later, K Lethal picked up lead jammer status again and ran the jam for almost the full two minutes, scoring 16 points to Mutch Mayhem’s 17 points. In the very next jam, Wheezy, Cincinnati’s other primary jammer, picked up lead jammer status for herself and Cincinnati won their first jam of the game 7-4. In Wheezy’s next jam, she picked up lead again scoring 4 points before calling it off. The following jam saw K Lethal steal two points when Rose City’s Mutch Mayhem was late with a call off. Rose City then returned to their initial form, putting up 29 points in the next several jams before Wheezy got lead against Licker’N’Split with a 3-2 pack favoring Cincinnati and scored 15 points while her blockers held Licker’N’Split to 0. The first half ended with Scald Eagle getting lead, her 19 points bringing the score to 220-54.
The second half saw Cincinnati adapt a bit to Rose City’s style of play and benefit from Scratcher in the Eye picking up two penalties in the same jam and a third when she got out of the box in the following jam. At the end of that series of power jams, the score stood at 289-116 and the period clock read 12:22 remaining.
“Our blockers adapt really well so we were watching what Rose was doing throughout the first half and tried to emulate them in the second. We learned a lot and look forward to applying it going forward,” said Cincinnati jammer Wheezy.
Cincinnati wouldn’t score for the remaining time in the bout but Rose City would add another 125 points to their already comfortable margin; the game ending 414-116 for the Portland team.
Rose City goes on to play the Arch Rival Rollergirls for fifth place Sunday at 2pm.
“The focus for tomorrow’s game will 100% be penalty control," said Havana Good Time of Rose City. "Today’s game there was some scattered playing on our behalf and getting used to pack definition calls; we didn’t adjust to that. So for tomorrow’s game we want tighter walls and not allowing people to get separated and not going out for single hits and winning of course”
Cincinnati will be playing for 7th place versus Wasatch Roller Derby at noon.
