Denver Roller Dolls (West #2) took on the Windy City Rollers (North Central #1) in an intense bout highlighted by hard hits and even harder gameplay.
The first half featured intense and aggressive play from both teams, punctuated by Windy City blockers Sargentina, Georgia on Yer Behind and Bork Bork Bork. The first few jams saw the teams pass the lead back and forth, but a cut track major by Heather Juska and a Windy City power jam put them within 10 points of Denver. However, two power jams in Denver’s favor quickly stretched the point spread to 50. Although Windy City saw more penalties than they would have liked, jammers Ska Face and Yvette Yourmaker were still able to put up more points.
Late in the period, Denver jammer Heather Juska had a power jam in which she made four grand slams, which may have proved to be the point of no return for Windy City. Although Windy City demonstrated strong teamwork and tough walls, Denver jammers Juska and Sandrine Rangeon were able to power through.
The second half was an exercise in tenacity for Windy City. Denver’s defense led by S.H. Long and Jes Rivas made scoring almost impossible, and held Windy City scoreless for 9 jams. Denver continued to dominate in the final minutes of the game, bringing the final score 212 -130 in their favor. They will go on to play the winner of Gotham vs Naptown today at 8:30pm.
