Powerhouse Oly Rollers (West #1) took on Minnesota RollerGirls (North Central #2 NC) in a matchup that many expected to be heavily lopsided in Oly’s favor. Minnesota worked as a team and played a relatively clean game to give Oly a run for their money in the first half, but Oly came back to claim a sizeable victory.
The first period started with an Oly four-jam scoring run bringing the score to Oly 40, Minnesota 0. In jam 5, the crowd roared as L’exi Cuter gained lead and put the first 3 points on the board for Minnesota. From there, Minnesota turned on the juice. Minnesota blockers ShivaShankn, Hurtrude Stein, and Diamond Rough held Oly jammer Scara ta Death at a complete standstill while Minnesota put 20 more points up.
Oly answered Minnesota with agile and fast jamming by On Da Sligh. During a Minnesota power jam, Oly blockers Sassy and Hockey Honey held Minnesota jammer at bay for most of it. Oly dominated the rest of the period, bringing the score at halftime to Oly 97, Minnesota 49.
Early in the second half, Oly jammer Scara ta Death sustained an apparent knee injury and was out for the rest of the game. Oly was unfazed; their deep jammer bench ensured they were able to widen the scoring gap. Oly spent much of the second half putting up 5 and 10 points at a time, which gave them a 100-point lead. A star pass to Minnesota’s Diamond Rough sent the Minnesota fans into a frenzy, but she ended up in the box. Minnesota’s last-minute rally sent morale through the roof, and they fought until their jammer went to the box. Oly came out on top, 218 to 125. Oly will play the Texas Rollergirls at 6:30pm today.
