Going into the first-place game at the 2015 International WFTDA Championships, the twin questions on everyone’s minds: Can Rose do it, and can Gotham hang on? In an agonizingly close game with ten lead changes and a tie — not to mention too many nail-bitingly close moments to count — the Rose City Rollers of Portland, Ore., (Dallas #1) overcame the Gotham Girls Roller Derby of New York, N.Y., (Omaha #1) 206-195 to break the New York team’s five-year unbeaten streak.

The run for third place at the the 2015 International WFTDA Championships was a long, grinding bid for dominance between Victorian Roller Derby League of Melbourne, Australia (#1 D1 Tucson, #4) and London Rollergirls from London, England (#1 D1 Jacksonville, #3). While the two met only once prior to Sunday’s game, at the 2014 International WFTDA Championships in Nashville, Tenn., the teams used their skating skills in the fight to the finish, with the lead switching back-and-forth, featuring scoreless runs for each.

In a rematch of the Division 2 Cleveland 1st Place game, the third place Division 2 game on the final day of the 2015 International WFTDA Championship was slow to roll for the Kansas City Roller Warriors (#1 D1 Cleveland, #34) and the Demolition City Dynamite Dolls (#2 D1 Cleveland, #29). Perhaps it was nerves due to the ESPN broadcast or the early morning start, or knowing that the grudge match would be difficult: regardless, the teams took a couple jams to feel each other out before Demolition was able to dig in their toe stops and begin their run for third place.
