The penultimate game of Day 2 at Division 2 Playoffs in Duluth highlighted the hard work of both teams, but ended with Treasure Valley Roller Derby, Idaho, (8) upsetting the Brewcity Bruisers of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (4), in what was a near duplication of last year’s match-up between these two teams. Treasure Valley advanced to play for fifth place in the tournament, while Brewcity goes on to play for seventh.

The Detroit Derby Girls (Detroit, MI) maybe have come into this tournament as the 2nd seed, but they have seemed determined all weekend to dominate every game. Their game against 3 seed Big Easy Rollergirls (New Orleans, LA) was no exception.

The Fabulous Sin City Rollergirls (5 seed, Las Vegas, Nevada) took on the 1 seed St. Chux Derby Chix (O’Fallon, Missouri) in a nailbiter of a game that featured everything good about roller derby. There were big hits, awesome jukes, crazy strategy, a bloody nose, foul outs, and solid, determined blocking. This game was anything but one sided. In the end, Sin City pulled out the upset and will move on to play for first place at this tournament. By winning this game they have already earned a trip to Nashville, Tennessee, in November to play in either the D2 Championship or Third Place game.

What started as a blatant lead by Tucson Roller Derby (6) of Tucson, Arizona over Suburbia Roller Derby (9) of Westchester County, New York in Game 8 of Division 2 Tournament in Duluth, ended as a scrappy battle and an upset.
Real. Strong. Athletic. Revolutionary.
