The penultimate game of Day 2 at Division 2 Playoffs in Duluth highlighted the hard work of both teams, but ended with Treasure Valley Roller Derby, Idaho, (8) upsetting the Brewcity Bruisers of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (4), in what was a near duplication of last year’s match-up between these two teams. Treasure Valley advanced to play for fifth place in the tournament, while Brewcity goes on to play for seventh.
Treasure Valley took an early and powerful lead over Brewcity, as the team managed lead jammer status for the first nine jams. At that point, Treasure Valley had 49 points over Brewcity’s single point. The tenth jam brought hope back to the ladies in black, as jammer Skittle flew through the pack for lead jammer. After that, lead jammer status changed hands on a semi-regular basis, and Brewcity fought for points and position on the track.
The score at half was Brewcity 40, Treasure Valley 93.
Managing to keep the point differential at nearly half for the second half of the game, Treasure Valley continued to dominate lead jammer status, while Brewcity Bruisers spent more time in the penalty box.
Blockers Becky the Butcher and Freight Train gave chase, as well as big hits, but couldn’t quite hold Treasure Valley jammers Demolition Barbie and Ella Snowfury.
Treasure Valley managed an upset over Brewcity Bruisers for the second year in a row, defeating the ladies in black 187-92.
