The one-sided penalty trend continued in game 12 of the 2013 D1 Playoffs in Asheville, North Carolina. The Nashville Rollergirls, competing in their second game of the day, drew more penalties and the score reflected it. Houston Roller Derby took advantage of power jams and short blocker defenses to take the win 221-63.

Penalties and a strong performance by the Steel Hurtin' created a very one-sided Game 11 in the 2013 D1 Playoffs in Asheville, North Carolina. Oklahoma Victory Dolls from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, found themselves on the wrong side of too many power jams as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Steel City Roller Derby capitalized for the win.

Defense was the theme of Game 10 of the 2013 D1 Playoffs in Asheville, NC. Both the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls from Denver, CO and Windy City Rollers from Chicago, Illinois held back their opposing jammer for 45 seconds in the first jam, setting the tone for the game. After trading jammer penalties for an exciting last jam, Rocky Mountain pulled out a narrow 150-133 win.

The highly anticipated semifinal matchup between Gotham Girls Roller Derby (1 seed), of New York, New York, and the Minnesota RollerGirls (4 Seed) of St. Paul, Minnesota brought hard hits and a speedy pack pace. In the end, Gotham maintained their undefeated record and secured the first spot in the WFTDA Championships for teams from the D1 Playoffs in Asheville.

The trend of penalty-heavy play continued into the second game of day 2 of the 2013 D1 Playoffs in Asheville, North Carolina. Game 7 between Columbia Quad Squad, from Columbia, South Carolina, and Steel City Roller Derby, from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, was a physical, hard-fought game in which 2 skaters left the game due to injury and another skater fouled-out.
