The #1 Seed Rose City Rollers (ranked #2 in the WFTDA) justified their rank and tournament seed to the entire state of Texas, including its opponent the #2 Seed Texas Rollergirls (#7), as well as the rest of the derby world when they took first place in the Dallas Division 1 WFTDA Playoffs.

Knee-down starts, double-whistles, and one-minute penalties: both Philly Roller Derby (#3) and Rat City Rollergirls (#4) used these strategies the last time they played each other in March 2011, four years ago. While they’ve each seen various changes and incarnations of roller derby in their tenure as leagues, they met up for a spot at the 2015 International WFTDA Championships in the hotly contested game for third place.

The game for fifth place was a tale of two periods between the 6 Seed (and host) Dallas Derby Devils #24 and the 8 Seed Crime City Rollers #30. The first period was often a slow tight battle between the teams. Where penalties sunk Dallas in previous WFTDA Playoffs games, today they reined in the over-aggressiveness and pulled away from Crime City in the second period and skated away with the win.

The battle for seventh began with Stockholm Roller Derby of Stockholm, Sweden (#5) taking an early lead against the Sun State Roller Girls of Brisbane, Australia (#7). The fully international game – the fourth of the tournament – featured swift blocking and powerful jamming from the two teams, yet both teams dropped a seeding position at the game’s conclusion.

Both the Ohio Roller Girls of Columbus, Ohio, and the Rideau Valley Roller Girls of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, came into today’s ninth-place game looking for their first win of the 2015 International WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Dallas. They had only met once before, with Ohio taking the win on that occasion. Today would be no different with ninth-seeded Ohio claiming 9th place, 251-208.
