The big state of Texas fell in love with a little team from Sweden as the 11 skaters of Stockholm Roller Derby took the track against the Rideau Valley Roller Girls from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on the second day of 2015 International WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs Dallas. Both teams lost their games yesterday and were looking for their first win of the tournament. Stockholm came into the game having lost to Rat City Rollers of Seattle, Wash., yesterday after holding the lead at the half. Meanwhile, Rideau Valley lost to the Sun State Roller Girls of Brown Plains, Queensland, Australia, yesterday to move into the consolation bracket. Stockholm demonstrated how quickly it learned from yesterday’s experience by skating a much cleaner game and taking the win, 290-84.

Home town favorites, the Dallas Derby Devils Army of Darkness (#6) skated against the Philly Roller Derby Liberty Belles of Philadelphia, Penn. (#3) in the final game of Day 1 at the 2015 International WFTDA D1 Playoffs. Home advantage can be a momentum force strong enough to defeat even the most tenacious of foes, but that was not the case in Game 6.

The 7 Seed Sun State Roller Girls (#28) was the first team to earn a second Friday game at the 2015 International WFTDA D1 Playoffs in Dallas. After a solid win over the 10 Seed Rideau Valley Roller Girls (#41) (196-118), the team from Browns Plains, Australia took on the 2 Seed Texas Rollergirls (#7) in a game where the play on the track and the numbers of the scoreboard often seemed at odds.

Apex jumps. Star passes. Agility and footwork. These are all things Crime City Rollers from Malmo, Sweden (#8) tried against the Rose City Rollers of Portland, Ore. (#1) in Game 4 of the 2015 International WFTDA Division 1 Playoff in Dallas, but to no avail. The Wheels of Justice made a swift run for lead and won the game to advance to the semi-final game against Pacific Northwest neighbors Rat City All Stars (#4).

The 2pm game at the 2015 International WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs Dallas featured another “new to WFTDA tournament play” team, Stockholm Roller Derby from Stockholm, Sweden, taking on Championship and tournament regulars, the Rat City Rollergirls hailing from Seattle, WA, USA . The American team came in the higher seed at fourth while Stockholm was slated to be slightly behind in them as the fifth seed at this tournament. Stockholm Roller Derby led the first half leading 62-54 at the end of 30 minutes. Rat City, however, would take the game, 204-73 with a short bench causing problems for the European team.
