Does your league have a motto, or words that it lives by? What is it / what are they? What does it mean to your league?
Don't take chances. Look for the opportunity. (And in Sac we like to say "Sacramento is Sacred Ground".)
Do you have a mascot? If so, what's its name? And will the mascot be with you at Playoffs? Do you have any special cheers for any of your skaters?
We used to have a great mascot who was one of our skater's dads! He was like a Grim reaper guy with a skull head and cape, a great staff. Alas, she has retired and he isn't around anymore. :(
Has your league experienced any retirements, transfers or injuries in the past year that have made a substantial difference in your league’s play and performance?
We lost one of our stronger jammers from last season, which forced us to really concentrate effort of jammers in particular, and train up from our B team. We used our several invitational tournaments this year to hone some skills, and get some experience under girls’ belts. Our town is pretty small really, so it seems like we are always rebuilding to some extent. We don't have a huge pool to pull from when girls move away or burn out.
What was the turning point for your league to make it to a playoff this season? Was there a BIG WIN that pushed your team over the edge?
This season started out a bit tough. We lost to our long-time rival Angel City right at the beginning of the season, which was really hard on everyone’s morale. But, then we traveled to the Dust Devil Tournament in Tucson and ended up winning the Tournament! That gave our team the boost we needed to continue playing hard and prepping for the Playoff season.
How have your practices changed since being named one of the teams to make it to the 2013 Playoffs?
Our Coaching Committee has restructured our practices to give more time for Travel time to be together, but also to allow more time for the whole league to skate together, as well.
Real. Strong. Athletic. Revolutionary.
