What was the turning point for your league to make it to Playoffs this season?
We actually had 2 losses that pushed our rank back. We were the first European team to make the D2 tournaments, although there were clearly others who deserved to go last year. This year, because of the ranking points we and other teams accrued and shared last year, many euro teams were able to strive for the rank and division they deserved. We found ourselves straddling D1 and D2. It was and is important to us that rankings reflect the correct level of play. So we played Stockholm and Helsinki, 2 teams we KNOW are D1 level (which they have proved themselves). We lost those games and that pushed away our chances of a D1 rank, but we are really committed to those scores and ones we will get at Detroit this year. We are part of a larger process and stoked to continue on the path of ever improving play.
Has your league experienced any retirements, transfers or injuries in the past year that have made a substantial difference in your league’s play and performance?
Berlin is a very transient city. People are coming and going often, which results in roster changes throughout the season. By the time we get to tournament season, we are pretty solidly built and know who we can depend on and who can afford to play. Heavy Rotation is currently not rostered and that is a big loss to our blocker rotation.
Is your travel team doing anything new or special to prepare for Playoffs?
We have restructured our training times to more effectively train technique, strategies, and game play. Not really for Playoffs, but for the long term improvement of the team.
Real. Strong. Athletic. Revolutionary.
