When the 4-seeded Treasure Valley Roller Derby of Boise, Idaho, were matched up against the 5-seeded Demolition City Roller Derby of Evansville, Ind., it looked like as close to a perfectly even match as you could get -- on paper. When the teams played Friday night at the 2015 International WFTDA Division 2 Playoffs Cleveland, there was no doubt that Demolition City demolished Treasure Valley, which was unable to overcome heavy penalty trouble.

In an intrastate battle pitting the St. Chux Derby Chix of O’Fallon, Mo., against the Kansas City Roller Warriors of Kansas City, Mo., Kansas City’s tournament pedigree proved insurmountable for the newer St. Chux team, which in its second-ever playoff tournament versus Kansas City’s tenth -- yes, you read that right. Both teams relied on powerful jammers able to punch through the pack in a game marked by low-scoring, hit-and-quit jams rather than massive scoring runs -- although there were certainly no shortage of power jams, either.

Two years ago, the Columbia QuadSquad Rollergirls All Stars (Seed #3) lost by 81 points to Houston Roller Derby All Stars (Seed #3) at Division 1 Playoffs in Asheville. Last year both teams were at different Division 1 Playoffs, but today they met in Game 3 at the 2015 International WFTDA Division 2 Playoffs Cleveland. The first half of the game was close, much like the two other games this morning, but Houston developed a lead going into the second half. They held and grew that lead to win the game and advance in the tournament.
