Both teams came into today’s game having something to prove at the WFTDA 2014 Division 2 Kitchener-Waterloo Playoffs. The Chicago Outfit (Chicago, IL) fell to the Killamazoo Derby Darlins yesterday and the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls (Grand Rapids, MI) suffered a tough loss to the Gold Coast Derby Grrls. At the start of this season, Grand Raggidy beat The Outfit handily, 331-115. In this confrontation, The Outfit would end up taking the game 202-153 but not without some serious challenges from the Michiganers.

The final bout on Friday night at the 2014 WFTDA Division 2 Playoffs in Kitchener-Waterloo saw two teams on the flat track who have never played at WFTDA Playoffs before. The Rideau Valley Vixens (Ottawa, ON) entered the tournament as the 3 seed and the Boulder County Bombers (Boulder, CO) came in as the 6 seed. While showing resiliency and promise, the team from Colorado was overpowered by their Canadian counterparts and Rideau won the bout 239-130.

The 7 seed Gold Coast Derby Grrls (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) won their first game of the day against the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls in what they called their “warm up” to play the 2 seed Queen City Roller Girls (Buffalo, NY) in what turned out to be the third rankings upset of the tournament.

Fresh off their exciting battle to the end win this morning, Bear City Roller Derby from Berlin, Germany took on the DC Rollergirls (Washington, DC), on the first day of the WFTDA 2014 Division 2 Playoffs in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The teams had met previously this year with DC taking the win, 151-117. The game would be much closer this time around with the European team continuing to write their Cinderella narrative by upsetting the tournament’s number one seed, 166-156.

The 4 seed Killamazoo Derby Darlins (Kalamazoo, MI) and the 5 seed Chicago Outfit Roller Derby (Chicago, IL) kept up the high-energy, intense derby action in the third game of the tournament. Through lead changes, solid, determined blocking and wily jamming, the Killamazoo Derby Darlins squeaked out the win in the last jam of the game and moved on to the semifinals.
