The 3 seed Rideau Valley Roller Girls (Ottawa, Ontario) helped start a new chapter of WFTDA history with their win over 7 seed Gold Coast Derby Girls (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), which set up a WFTDA Playoffs final game with no U.S. teams. Rideau Valley will compete against 9 seed Bear City Rollergirls for 1st place in the Kitchener-Waterloo tournament and will representing D2 in Nashville, TN, in November at the WFTDA Championships.

Demolition City Roller Derby(Evansville, IN) was looking to continue the upset trend that seems to be prevalent at the 2014 WFTDA Division 2 Kitchener-Waterloo Playoff in their match up against 2 seed, Queen City Roller Girls (Buffalo, NY). This was an anything goes kind of game where you never knew what the next jam would bring. The 60 minutes were a bit like a spice rack, you got a pinch of everything including 92 penalties total across the two teams. Some jams were filled with team based, patient play while others were punctuated by aggressive individual blocking. In the end, Queen City would win, 188-174.

The 1 seed DC Rollergirls (Washington, DC) and the 5 seed Chicago Outfit Roller Derby (Chicago, IL) played in a game so tight that it seemed as if they were in a scrum all the way around the track, except when each team recycled the opposing jammer and strung out the back of the pack.

In the first semifinal game at the 2014 WFTDA Division 2 Kitchener-Waterloo playoffs, the 4 seed, Killamazoo Derby Darlins (Kalamazoo, MI) took on the 9 seed, Bear City Roller Derby (Berlin, Germany). Bear City Roller Derby made it to the semifinals by upsetting both Demolition City and the tournament’s 1 seed, DC Rollergirls yesterday. The Killamazoo Derby Darlins made it via a victory over the Chicago Outfit. In the end, Bear City booked their tickets to Nashville for Halloween weekend winning the semifinal, 232-185

Just because teams are in the “consolation” bracket of Playoffs does not mean that the action is anything less than fast and furious. The 6 seed Boulder County Bombers (Boulder, CO) and the 8 seed Demolition City Roller Derby (Evansville, IN) skaters demonstrated this to fans in a game that was tighter than newly laced up skates.
