Rose City Rollers (seed 1, #4) of Portland, Oregon won the gold medal in the final game of D1 Playoffs Charleston against Melbourne, Australia’s Victorian Roller Derby League (seed 2, #5). Rose City is the highest ranked team that VRDL has ever played in a sanctioned game.

Fighting for third place at the international 2014 WFTDA Division 1 Playoff Charleston, the Philly Roller Girls (Seed 3, WFTDA 12) overtook an early lead for the Atlanta Rollergirls (Seed 4, WFTDA 13), winning the game 183-116. At stake was not just finishing on the podium, but taking the last spot to go to the championship tournament in Nashville next month.

Madison, Wisconsin’s Mad Rollin’ Dolls (seed 7, #29) overcame a first half deficit to win Game 15 against the Naptown Roller Girls(seed 5, #21) of Indianapolis, Indiana. Earlier this year Madison defeated Naptown 162-142 and they expanded the score differential in the 5th place game of WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Charleston.

In a ferocious battle between the fast and physical Columbia QuadSquad Rollergirls (9 seed, WFTDA 37) of Columbia, S.C., and the cool, calculated play of the Boston Derby Dames (6 seed, WFTDA 22), the Boston team emerged with a 219-115 win to take seventh place at the International 2014 WFTDA Division 1 Charleston tournament. That victory was far from assured, though, as Columbia kept the point spread to just 26 points going in to the half and continued to put points on the board all the way to the final whistle, but Boston’s persistent recycling on the entire Columbia squad carried the team through.

The third day of the international 2014 WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Charleston, West Virginia, started with a close game between the 8 seed Jet City Rollergirls (#30) of Everett, Washington and 10 seed SoCal Derby (#38) of San Diego, California. Jet City outscored SoCal in the end, despite their higher penalty count for blockers and jammers. Jet City was able to take advantage of the power jam opportunities they did have and successfully shut down SoCal’s jammers when they were on the track.
