The Texas Rollergirls and the Denver Roller Dolls met in the 3rd/4th Place game in the 2012 WFTDA Championships, and Denver came out victorious due to a second-half comeback. But when the Texecutioners took the lead from the first whistle in their semi-final game against the Mile High Club this year, they never let go.

In the last of the quarterfinal games, #1 Salem seed, the B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls, lined up against the Asheville #3 seed, the Windy City Rollers. The B.A.D. Girls started the game cleanly, getting only two penalties in the first 15 minutes of the game, as Windy City gave up two power jams in the opening seven jams. The penalties started to even out, however, as the period progressed.

This bout provided fans with their first opportunity to see returning champions Gotham Girls Roller Derby from New York City at this tournament facing off against first-time Championship team, the Ohio Roller Girls from Columbus, Ohio, who made it to Day 2 by beating the Rat City Rollergirls from Seattle on Friday. Gotham came into the game as the number one seed from Asheville Division 1 Playoffs this year having triumphed over all their opponents in North Carolina. They are now riding a 42 sanctioned game winning streak, having last lost a sanctioned game in 2010.

The Denver Roller Dolls had an inauspicious start to their game against the Angel City Derby Girls as jammer Julie Adams got a back block major in the opening jam of Game 6. Despite the rocky start, Denver straightened up their play and climbed to a steep lead over Angel City.

Day 2 of the 2013 WFTDA Championships started off with rocket-force momentum as the Texas Rollergirls’ Texecutioners battled Atlanta Rollergirls’ Dirty South Derby Girls for a chance at semi-final play at the end of the day. The two teams have a history of tough matches in the South Central region, knew it would be a tooth-and-nail game, and the crowd got quite a show, as penalties were high, and points went in Texas’ favor throughout.
