The final WFTDA Playoffs of 2014, held Oct. 3-5 in Charleston, West Virginia, added a fifth country to the roster of the international 2014 WFTDA Championships, to be held Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Nashville, Tennessee. Victorian Roller Derby League, of Melbourne, became the first-ever Australian team to qualify for WFTDA Championships and placed second in the Charleston Playoffs.

The final of our Division 1 Playoffs open this weekend in Charleston, WV. A flight delay for one of our teams means some game time movements for day one competitions. The Jet City Rollergirls vs Columbia QuadSquad (Game 1) will move to the 12pm time slot, while the SoCal Derby vs Mad Rollin' Dolls (Game 2) moves up to the 10am spot.

The WFTDA Officiating Committee, working in collaboration with officials from the Men’s Roller Derby Association as well as WFTDA officials from around the world, is releasing a new Officiating Skills Assessment to assist leagues with assessing officials against a set of standard criteria.

The WFTDA is excited to announce the addition of 14 new full member leagues and 11 new apprentice leagues from around the world. The new apprentice class includes the first WFTDA affiliate on the African continent and the first in Chile, continuing the worldwide expansion of the sport.

With dominant performances all weekend, the B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls of San Francisco, California, USA won the international 2014 WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Salt Lake City, Utah, held Sept. 26-28. Bay Area came out on top of a field of 10 of the world’s top-ranked teams in women’s roller derby and will advance to the international 2014 WFTDA Championships in Nashvile Oct. 31-Nov. 2 with a first round bye.
