Earlier this month, Beijing Roller Derby, in conjunction with UN Women China and the UN HeForShe campaign, hosted the first roller derby game in China.The WFTDA was proud to be part of this historic event and, as part of our sponsorship, covered the costs to send two WFTDA Certified officials, Don “Pantichrist” Mynatt and Lizzie “Devine Intervention” Devine, to support the international crew on site.

Visit Saint Paul, the tourism board of Saint Paul, Minnesota, has named the International WFTDA Championships the Event of the Year for 2015. Hosted by the Minnesota RollerGirls, last year’s WFTDA Championships brought athletes, officials and fans from around the world to the Legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium for an unforgettable weekend of roller derby.

WFTDA is holding an open call for Tournament Head Announcers for the 2016 International WFTDA Playoffs and Championships. The Tournament Head Announcers will be responsible for managing the announcers at each Playoffs location, and at Championships. The Tournament Head Announcer applicants will be able to apply for a specific location(s) as they apply for the position. These positions will be selected before tournament seeding has been confirmed. A travel stipend will be provided.

The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) will temporarily close its officiating certification system on June 1 to focus exclusively on the transition to the new, unified certification system with the Men’s Roller Derby Association. The WFTDA and MRDA have set a goal to complete the restructure of the program by early to mid 2017.

The WFTDA is opening applications for Games Tournament Oversight (GTO) positions at the 2016 International WFTDA Playoffs. The GTO provides oversight at tournaments and multi-game weekends to ensure a fair and well-managed competitive event and is responsible for sanctioning, skater advocacy and issues resolution. This position is required at all WFTDA Playoffs, Championships and WFTDA-Recognized Tournaments.
