Jackie Daniels was an original member of Grand Raggidy Roller Girls, who recently transferred to the Windy City Rollers. She's well known in the WFTDA community, having played with and against (and sometimes acting as a coach for) many leagues throughout the country. She was also one of the actual roller derby skaters featured in the movie Whip It. Her winning positive attitude and experience in roller derby are why we chose her as this month's featured skater.

Shellby Shattered, of The Boston Derby Dames (BDD), has been an incredibly scary blocker and fearless leader of the Boston Massacre (BDD's travel team) since its early days. She has helped build BDD and The Massacre into the force they are today, and was a major factor in Boston making their first appearance at a WFTDA National Tournament in 2009. She has also led her BDD home team, the Wicked Pissahs, to two league championships, has earned MVP with New England Roller Derby (NERD), and has played on a number of expo teams. Shattered has everything that it takes to have success in our fine sport: dedication, hard work, team spirit, focus, willingness to try new things, good introspection, great awareness, speed, agility, and a positive can-do attitude. Please take a moment to learn more about this derby gal who’s got some of the Eastern Region teams shaking in their skates when they play The Massacre.

Hydra, of the Texas Rollergirls, is one of the founders of WFTDA, an original contributor to the United Leagues Coalition (ULC)--the predecessor to the WFTDA--and has been involved with interleague relations since early 2004, and served as the organization's first president until future league-mate Crackerjack took over in May of 2007. She continued to serve the WFTDA with the title as past-president until her retirement from the board of directors in December of 2009. Before the board of directors was formed in 2006, Hydra was central to the creation of the formal organizational structure of the WFTDA, developing the mission and brand, and putting into place many of the technologies and membership training that make the organization run. Hydra has been a big part of WFTDA since the very beginning of our organization, and we'd like to take a moment to introduce you to this amazing woman who changed WFTDA forever.

Charm City's Joy Collision made waves in 2009, breaking the WFTDA tournament record for number of points scored in one jam in the Eastern Regional Tournament, scoring 30 points against the DC Rollergirls at the 2009 WFTDA Eastern Regional tournament (breaking Duke' City's Kamikaze Kim's record of 25 points, set at Westerns the previous year). We'd like to tell you a little more about this amazing skater.
