Des Moines’ roller derby team, the Des Moines Derby Dames, was founded in 2009. The Des Moines Derby Dames have about 35 skaters, fielding two teams: The Des Moines Derby Dames All-Stars and the Crash Test Dolls. The skaters have built a reputation in the city as an organization of class, charity, and quality family entertainment.
The Iowa Events Center is located in downtown Des Moines with access to more than 100 restaurants, 10,000 sleeping rooms, and numerous attractions to choose from, all within a 5-mile radius. Parking is abundant and connected to more than 4 miles of climate-controlled skywalk system with a free D-Line shuttle to connect you between Downtown and the East Village District.
Downtown Des Moines is safe and enjoyable, whether you’re on foot, bike, skates, or you've got your own car—feel free to explore! The DART buses are running all weekend, Thursday and Friday you can hop on the free D-line shuttle to ride a loop on Grand Avenue and Locust from 17th on the west end of downtown to the east end by the gold dome of the Capitol.
The Holiday Inn at Mercy Campus is just one half mile to Hy-Vee Hall at the Iowa Events Center. The hotel is just one mile from the Pappajohn Sculpture Park, featuring 24 sculptures of contemporary and modern artists.
