No doubt most folks’ brackets were busted by the D2 Des Moines’s tournament Cinderella team, the Treasure Valley Rollergirls (#64, seed #10), and the busting continued in their bout against the Brewcity Bruisers (#44, seed #2) in Game 6 on Day 1. Treasure Valley used their relatively unknown status to break up the blockers and break the hearts of the Brewcity fans, winning 368-124.
The game started with close margins, and Brewcity capitalized on the first power jam, but after that brief moment of glory, the glimmer of hope for Brewcity quickly dimmed as Treasure Valley grabbed a power jam and surpassed the ladies from Milwaukee, 44-36. After that lead change, Treasure Valley didn’t give Brewcity a chance to come close, especially because of BCB’s penalty numbers. The half ended with Treasure Valley sitting at 210, and Brewcity a mere 47.
During the game, BCB accrued 52 penalty minutes, losing ChaZaam and Latina Heat after each managed to rack up seven majors. Comparatively, Treasure Valley spent only 21 minutes in the sin bin. Demolition Barbie, Treasure Valley’s premier jammer, scored 149 points in the game, more than Brewcity jammers captured throughout the entire bout. Barbie had strong jammer support, with her teammates Dawn of the Shred and Udaho scoring 120 and 99 points respectively.
