Coming off of an upset win against seed #9 Tallahassee Rollergirls in Game 1 of the tournament earlier in the day, Dallas Derby Devils (#62, seed #1) had momentum to spare in their game against the tournaments #1 seed, the Fabulous Sin City Rollergirls (#43, seed #1). And Dallas’s Army of Darkness used that momentum to take an early lead, with a 20-point jam, forcing Sin City to rethink their defense early in the game. In the end, however, the ladies from Las Vegas gambled and won against Dallas, with a final score 299-95.
After Sin City took a moment to reassess their defensive play, the skaters in orange and white kept Dallas from ever making another attempt to threaten the team’s #1 seed. In fact, with the exception of the Army of Darkness’s first point push, Sin City did a fabulous job maintaining their lead and dominantly declaring their station at the top of the tournament seeding. Smart jamming from Sin City helped create a wide lead in the first, and Dallas’s penalty issues made the difference, giving Sin City the lead at half, 145-58.
With 21 minutes left in the second period, Sin City was up 206-58, and things didn’t change much throughout the game’s remaining minutes. Penalty trouble made Dallas’s attempts to shrink the gap even more difficult. By the end of the game, Dallas players had spent 40 minutes in the sin bin, nearly twice as many minutes as the ladies from Las Vegas. The Force from Sin City put up an impressive 94 points throughout the game, nearly as many points as Dallas score in total. Sin City handily defeat the Army of Darkness.
(1) Fabulous Sin City Rollergirls 299
(9) Dallas Derby Devils 95
Sin City advanced to Game 9 to play against Jet City Rollergirls; Dallas moved to the consolation bracket to play Game 11 against the winner of Game 7 on Saturday at 6:00.
