Game 3: (4) DC Rollergirls vs (5) Jet City Rollergirls

August 17, 2013

Upsets became a trend at the Des Moines D2 tournament, as Jet City Rollergirls (#52, seed #5) winged past the women from Washington, DC Rollergirls (#49, seed #4) in Game 3. DC ended the game at 122, not even half of the points Jet City was able to stack up during the bout, 262.

Jet City established their lead and their trouncing capacity within the opening minutes of the game, taking a 42-6 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. And while they were able to take the lead in points, Jet City also had the opportunity to take the lead in lead jammer statistics as well. In the end, Jet City had 24 total lead jammer calls, while DC grabbed lead in only 11 jams.

DC did defeat Jet City in penalty minutes, picking up five more penalty minutes in each of the two periods, accruing a total of 40 penalties during the bout to Jet City’s 30. The half ended 140-64 in favor of the women from the West Coast, and they continued to march past the DC Rollergirls, taking large swathes of points at a time.
