D2 Playoffs | Des Moines, IA |
August 17, 2013
While Omaha Rollergirls (#57, seed #7) drew first blood in the first game of Division 2 Playoffs in Des Moines, Iowa, it was Treasure Valley Rollergirls (#64, seed #10) from Boise, Idaho who took the game, with a final score of 222-93, and giving viewers at the Iowa Event Center their first upset of tournament season.
After scoring seven points in the opening moments of the bout, Omaha was held scoreless for nearly 18 minutes, as Treasure Valley was able to accrue nearly 70 points. It was during this time that Treasure Valley established their lead over the ladies from Nebraska. At half, Treasure Valley was up 116-35 after having capitalized on their strong defense.
Unfortunately for Omaha, the second half was much like the first; the team doubled their score from the period prior, but it wasn’t enough to hold back the upset dealt out by Treasure Valley.
For those who’ve never heard of Treasure Valley Rollergirls, the team has been around since 2006 and has been active in WFTDA since 2011. Their 2013 record shows six wins and two losses. They came ready to “Crush. Crush. Smash. Smash. TVR,” the team’s motto for the 2013 season. And crush they did.
