2010 Third Quarter Rankings Released

November 1, 2010

The 2010 third quarter rankings for the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, reflecting the results of the recent regional playoff series, were announced Nov. 1.

The East Coast saw little change in its rankings. Gotham Girls Roller Derby still holds the #1 spot and the Philly Roller Girls trail behind at #2. Charm City Roller Girls catapult to the #3 spot after taking third at the East Region Playoffs in late September, bumping the Boston Derby Dames down to #4. The next slight change can be seen towards the mid-section as the Carolina Rollergirls move up to #6, pushing Montreal Roller Derby down to #7. The DC Rollergirls again swap places with the Dutchland Rollers, taking #9 and #10, respectively.

The South Central Region Playoffs, Amber Waves of Pain, clearly shook up the rankings in that region. After winning the regional tournament, the Kansas City Roller Warriors claimed the #1 spot, knocking longtime region leaders Texas Rollergirls back to #2. Nashville Rollergirls take a leap to the #3 spot and will be joining Texas and Kansas City at the WFTDA Championships this year. The Atlanta Rollergirls drop to #4, No Coast Derby Girls burst into the #5 spot from #8 while the Tampa Bay Derby Darlins remain at #6. The Dallas Derby Devils took a hard fall from the #4 spot to #8, and the Oklahoma Victory Dolls bump down to #17 as the Big Easy Rollergirls move up to #16.

The North Central Region also saw some interesting changes after its regional tournament, Thunda on the Tundra. While the Windy City Rollers are still holding strong at #1, the Detroit Derby Girls fall to the #4 spot as the Minnesota RollerGirls climb up to the #2 spot from #7. The Naptown Roller Girls move to the #7 spot from #9, Brewcity Bruisers fell to the #8 spot from #5, and the previously unranked Chicago Outfit makes a debut at #10. Arch Rival Rollergirls dropped to the #11 spot from #8. The rest of the North Central Region moved up or down a spot except for the bottom three, holding steady with Hammer City Roller Girls at #18, Derby City Rollergirls at #19 and Gem City Rollergirls at #20.

The West Region saw the most changes at the top. The Rocky Mountain Rollergirls knocked 2009 WFTDA Champions the Oly Rollers out of the #1 spot to #2, the Denver Roller Dolls fall into the #6 spot from #3, and the B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls take the #3 spot, rising from #6. Rose City Rollers and Rat City Rollergirls stay at #4 and #5, respectively. Former #8 Duke City Derby finds themselves in the #11 spot, as the Pikes Peak Derby Dames slip back into the #10 spot, and Sacred City Derby Girls move up to #8 from #10. The rest of the region’s teams shuffled up and down a spot or two, except the Salt City Derby Girls who jump three spots to #15.
