D1 Playoffs | Salt Lake City, UT |
Wasatch Roller Derby was formed in 2008 with the intent to create a travel team and a non-profit organization focused on giving back to the local community. In the six years that WRD has been in existence, the league has grown from one travel team to 50 skaters on an “A” and a “B” travel team plus three home teams.
Some of Wasatch Roller Derby’s accomplishments include their first public bout April 25, 2009 where they raised approximately $1,500 for the Utah chapter of the American Diabetes Association. From there, the league continued to grow and in June 2010 Wasatch Roller Derby was accepted into the WFTDA.
In 2010, WRD also secured its own practice venue and focused on its next goal, qualifying for playoffs. In 2012, after a hard-fought season including an amazing series of games at Boise’s Spudtown Knockdown tournament, the season ended with an invite to Oakland for the WFTDA West Region Playoffs. In 2013 WRD headed to the WFTDA Division 1 playoffs in Fort Wayne, Indiana and now Wasatch Roller Derby is elated to be hosting a Division 1 playoff tournament in Salt Lake City this year.
Real. Strong. Athletic. Revolutionary.
