Q&A

What was the turning point for your league to make it to Playoffs this season?
We played leagues well above our ranking in the beginning, and we ended up scrambling to stay in Division 1. Afterwards, we regrouped and focused on winning our games. We lost by 15 points to Arch Rival and then went on to beat Wasatch and Des Moines before the June 30 cut off. That luckily kept us in and we are grateful to be headed to Sacramento this year.

Have you ever played any of the teams in your Playoff bracket?
Our first opponent is New Hampshire. We played them last year and it was one of our favorite games of the year. They played hard and were great sportswomen on the track. We are looking forward to another hard game to start the tournament.

Who is the newest skater to your travel team? Your most veteran skater?
Newest: Esty Frakes. Esty started roller derby in July 2014. She is a former speed skater and is picking up the game like a fish in water. She has brought a vibrant energy to our jammer line. Oldest: Annie Maul and Bruz Her. Both joined the team in 2006 and had their first game against Texas Rollergirls Hustlers in the summer of 2006. They both are the remaining skaters who were on the championship team in 2007. In 2007, Bruz Her was the captain and Annie Maul was the co-captain. They both been in numerous leadership roles throughout the years. Their experience in attending multiple tournaments is great as each year there are new skaters who need guidance on what to expect. They also know what it takes to prepare for tournaments.

Real. Strong. Athletic. Revolutionary.
