Things to Do in Columbia

June 30, 2016

The D1 WFTDA Playoffs will be held in the vibrant downtown of Columbia, South Carolina, September 9-11, in the Columbia Convention Center down the street from the banks of the Congaree River and right behind the campus of the University of South Carolina.

Flying Saucer

Needless to say, there is a lot to do and see in the area surrounding the Convention Center. Want to catch an early breakfast, grab take out between games, or grab a beer after the last game of the night? There are a lot of places to grab and go or sit and relax.

Wet Willie's

For those who want to grab a craft beer or frozen drink they can walk a couple of blocks to the nearby Flying Saucer Draught Emporium or Wet Willie’s. Need a pick me up? There's a Starbucks just a few blocks away.

Hungry for vegan? Take a 7-8 block walk (or send someone for take out) to check out the Good Life Café (1614 Main Street). A local chain restaurant, the Black Bean Co, is a little closer and is considered “vegetarian friendly” for lunch and breakfast. For those who crave familiarity, there’s a Chipotle nearby as well.

Finlay Park

Want some greenery in the heart of the city or want to skate but aren’t rostered on a team that is playing? Bring your outdoor wheels and check out the paved paths of Finlay Park. Or just head over there for a bit of Vitamin D under the boughs of an old oak tree to clear your head of the sound of all of the whistles.

Five Points Fountain

The University of South Carolina has a beautiful campus that blends old and new architecture. Close to campus on what used to be swamp land, Five Points is a great little shopping district that offers unique shops as well as other eateries and bars.

Real. Strong. Athletic. Revolutionary.
