Madison only held the lead once in the first half, after Mouse scored 19 points while Space Invader sat in the box for Boston. Space Invader managed to put up 13 points for her team in the same jam, but Madison still took the lead with 27 to Boston’s 23. Boston quickly regained their lead two jams later when Lil Paine scored 19 points as Ladie Who-Ha was held up by the dynamic wall of Space Invader, Ginger Kid, Vixen Ta Hitcha, and Anna Wrecksya.

Boston continued this trend as they held Madison to 36 points for eight jams while extending their score from 23 to 67. Madison reacted by holding Boston at 67 for seven jams and bringing their own score up to 63. Glock Ness, Tango De Muerte, Allie Gator, Mack The Knife, and Brokeback Jack held down Boston’s jammers to bring them within points of taking the lead.

The half ended with momentum swinging in Boston’s favor as Flyin’ King scored 20 points after Madison’s jammer cut the track. Boston’s blockers aggressively played offense to clear the Madison blockers out of King’s way so they could end the half with 97 points to Madison’s 69.

Dense, slow packs off the jammer line started the second half, and Boston continued to slowly build their lead. With under 19 minutes left in the game Mouse was sent to the penalty box for cutting and Boston’s Stevie Nixher completed her largest jam of the game with 14 points to bring Boston’s lead to 121 over Madison’s 99.

Madison started their comeback soon after. Jammers Ladie Who-Ha, Magic Missle, Splatter Alice, and Mouse earned lead jammer status in the next six jams and added a total of 37 points to their total to establish a lead. With a score of 132 to 121 Madison took the lead for the second time in the game about 15 minutes into the half. Five minutes later Lil Paine ended Madison’s lead jammer streak and her team’s scoring drought with an 18-point jam to bring them within five points of Madison.

Both teams showed off their impressive defense in the next jam, as Magic Missile and Maya Mangleyou were both recycled back through the pack multiple times before they were able to attempt a scoring pass. Magic Missile called the jam and picked up two points for Madison, bringing the score to 139-146.

Boston started the next jam on the pivot line, and Madison jammer Ladie Who-Ha was called off on a back block penalty at the start of the jam. Shananaguns, Blanche Devereauxx, Gene Lane, and Busta Crimes held the Boston jammer to only one scoring pass while their jammer was off the track. Ladie Who-Ha returned to the track and managed to pick up 14 points, keeping her ahead of Boston’s Space Invader, who scored 11.

With less than five minutes left in the game, Madison added a quick point to their total to leave the score at 161-150 in favor of Madison. The next jam was similar as Madison added a quick two points to their total.

With under 2 minutes on the clock Madison still had a lead of 164 points to Boston’s 150. Lil Paine found space in the Madison wall to earn lead in the next jam, as both teams built solid bridges to keep their teammates in play. Hayley Contagious, Ginger Kid, Shark Week, and Vixen Ta Hitcha took turns holding back Madison’s Ladie Who-Ha while Allie Gator, Mack The Knife, and Tango De Muerte limited Lil Paine’s scoring. Boston came out advantageous in that jam and brought the score to 158-168, still in Madison’s favor.

Only ten points separated the 6th and 7th seeds as the final jam began. Madison’s co-captain Hello Sailor said they went into the final jam planning to, “stay clean, stay together, and if we believe we can do it, it’s going to happen because we put in all the hard work for it.”

Boston’s Maya Mangleyou and Madison’s Magic Missile pushed through braced walls in an attempt to earn the most important lead status of the game. Maya Mangleyou made it out first as Boston’s bench and fans screamed for their jammer. She dodged and weaved through Madison’s blockers to add 17 points to Boston’s score. As the jam expired, Magic Missile was able to add eight points to Madison’s total. The unofficial score read 175 for Boston and 176 for Madison. With everyone in the building on their feet, the score was confirmed, with Madison taking a 1-point win.

Madison’s Magic Missile, Ladie Who-Ha, Splatter Alice, and Mouse scored 68, 48, 38, and 22 points, respectively. Boston’s top scorers were Lil Paine with 51 points, Maya Mangelyou with 36, Flyin’ King with 34, and Space Invader with 32.

Madison advances to the 5th place game tomorrow at 2pm EDT and Boston will play for 7th at 12pm EDT. Each team will play either Columbia or Naptown, depending on the results of their game.
