London Rollergirls Win WFTDA Playoffs Evansville

WFTDA teams from three countries converged in Evansville, Indiana, USA Sept. 19-21 to skate the latest chapter of WFTDA history. The international 2014 WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs Evansville brought together top-tier skaters and teams from the United States, United Kingdom and Canada.

London Rollergirls, of London, England, who came in as the top seed of the Evansville Playoffs, won the tournament and will make their second trip to WFTDA Championships in Nashville Oct. 31-Nov. 2, this year with a first round bye. Windy City Rollers, of Chicago, Illinois, USA, and Texas Rollergirls, of Austin, Texas, USA, also earned Championships berths as the 2 and 3 seeds, respectively.

In the first round of WFTDA D1 Playoffs, Gotham Girls Roller Derby, of New York, New York, USA; Denver Roller Dolls, of Denver, Colorado, USA; and Minnesota RollerGirls, of St. Paul, Minnesota, USA, earned the first three slots at Championships.

Although they didn’t make it to Championships, Arizona Roller Derby also made an impression on fans in Evansville as they came in as the 10 seed and pulled multiple upset wins on their way to finishing in 5th Place.

Erin Jackson, the leading scorer for the 4th Place Jacksonville Rollergirls, was named tournament MVP.

9th Place – Ohio Roller Girls (5 seed)
10th Place – Houston Roller Derby (9 seed)
