April 30, 2012

The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association has released the first quarter rankings for 2012, reflecting some movement as teams begin sanctioned play for the year. Quarter one rankings are a reflection of games played through March 31.

There was a quite bit of shuffling within the West Region. The Terminal City Rollergirls made the biggest jump, moving from #23 to #16. While the top three West teams remain the same, the Denver Roller Dolls moved up one spot, putting them at #4 and pushing the Rat City Roller Girls to #5. The Jet City Rollergirls dropped to #9, allowing Angel City Derby Girls to take #8. Arizona Roller Derby moves up three spots, from #13 to #10. In the mid-section of the West, Emerald City Roller Girls move from #12 to #14 and Wasatch Roller Derby move up two spots to #15. Sonoma County Roller Derby also makes a move upward, moving up five spots to #23.

The South Central Region also reflects a whirlwind of change. Houston Roller Derby, Tampa Roller Derby and the Omaha Rollergirls all made gains, setting at #4, #6 and #7, respectively. As a result, Atlanta Rollergirls and No Coast Derby Girls each shift a bit lower in the top 10. The Jacksonville Rollergirls make it into the top 10, rising two spots to #9, and the Tallahassee Rollergirls jumped five spaces to enter the region's top 10 for the first time. Green Country Roller Girls and Gold Coast Derby Grrls were nudged out of the top 10 as a result of Jacksonville and Tallahassee rising. The Oklahoma Victory Dolls gained five spots in this ranking, ending up at #12. Sioux City Roller Dames and Little City Roller Girls were both ranked for the first time, debuting at #21 and #22, respectively.

The North Central Region, by contrast, saw much less movement in this quarter, aside from some one- or two-spot shifts. The Brewcity Bruisers claim the #6 spot as the Ohio Roller Girls move up two to #7, bumping the Arch Rival Roller Girls and Cincinnati Rollergirls down. Toronto Roller Derby moves up to #15 and the Babe City Rollers, being ranked for the first tim, debut at #22.

Like North Central, the East Region saw limited movement during the first quarter. Maine Roller Derby and the DC Rollergirls swap places, putting DC into the region's top 10. The Queen City Roller Girls rose two spots to #13, and New Hampshire Roller Derby also moves up two spots, to #24.
