Even in downtown Madison, a city of almost 250,000 people, you can still find a way to connect with nature for some peace and tranquility or an outdoor workout. Bring those outdoor wheels and take a spin through the beautiful Willow Island Park pathways. If you didn’t pack your skates but still want to take a nature walk by the banks of Lake Monona, check out Turville Point Conservation Park. Both are within walking distance from the arena.
A few miles from the arena, smooshed between Lake Monona and Lake Mendota, you’ll find an abundance interesting food options. When in Wisconsin, you must try the cheese curds! The Old Fashioned has superb curds on their menu as well as, you guessed it, a delicious Old Fashioned cocktail. There’s also the Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co. for burgers and beers; Mediterranean Café for, well, Mediterranean; and Burrito Drive for “inventive” Mexican. For all those vegan and vegetarians out in derby land who will be in Madison for Playoffs, consider visiting the Green Owl Café-Madison’s only entirely vegan and vegetarian restaurant.
If you’re interested in taking a little time away from game play to go shopping, check out State Street on the edge of the University of Wisconsin campus. You’ll find everything from the Gap to Mimosa Books & Gifts, a new age shop and resource center. There’s also the Dane County Farmers’ Market on Saturday mornings, the largest producer-only farmers’ market in the nation!
Looking for some nighttime fun? Five Nightclub, serves Madison’s LGBTQ community and its visitors. They have different sections of the club for different activities and special events. The City Bar, described as a “hip lounge,” boasts of house-infused vodkas. Vintage Spirits & Grill is a bar and grill with a retro theme, outdoor patio, and a large list of craft beer, including house brews. There are plenty of pockets of entertainment to choose from all within a few miles of the arena.
Real. Strong. Athletic. Revolutionary.
