WFTDA Provides Support to European Tournament

November 13, 2012

The official WFTDA tournament season may have ended with the WFTDA Championships earlier this month, but our member leagues still have plenty more action in store!

Track Queens

Bear City Roller Derby, of Berlin, Germany, is hosting the first ever WFTDA-style tournament in Europe Nov. 16 to 18. “Track Queens – Battle Royal” will feature 10 European WFTDA member and apprentice leagues competing in a bracketed tournament. The teams will be seeded into a bracket that mirrors the WFTDA Playoffs bracket.

WFTDA Managing Director of Games Karen Kuhn will be on site at the Track Queens event to help the tournament organizers keep the event aligned with WFTDA tournament and games standards. She also plans to meet with European roller derby leaders to discuss the sport’s growth in Europe and how the WFTDA can continue to support the sport there.

“The tournament will give these teams the opportunity to get together and have a taste of the WFTDA tournament experience,” Kuhn said. “It also serves as a great training opportunity for those interested in being involved in Games oversight in Europe.”

Those who can’t make it to Berlin for the tournament will still have the opportunity to watch the games live through the new “WFTDA.tv Presents” program! Broadcasting in conjunction with WTFDA.tv, the Bear City-produced coverage will be free! View the tournament schedule to check out the exciting matchups, and visit WFTDA.tv later in the week for more information on how to watch the event live.

A similar tournament is also being planned for 2013 to provide further competitive opportunities for our European membership, so stay tuned for more information on that right here at wftda.com!
