Registration for the 2011 cycle of WFTDA Officiating Clinics opens today. Building on the organization's first officiating clinics, held last year, WFTDA is offering both Beginner and Advanced level clinics in 2011. We are also excited to announce that we will be offering clinics in Europe and Australia this summer, in addition to locations throughout the United States.

Through continued education of roller derby referees and non-skating officials, WFTDA strives to improve the consistency of roller derby officiating and the standardization of officiating practices and procedures.

I am a roller derby official. Why should I sign up for a WFTDA Officiating Clinic?

If you are relatively new to roller derby officiating, the WFTDA Beginner Officiating Clinic will help you build upon the skills that you have already developed while skating with your home league, putting you on a path toward becoming a WFTDA Certified Official.

If you are already an experienced official that is part of a WFTDA member league, the Advanced clinic will help solidify your understanding of the nuances of the WFTDA rules in terms of quality of calls, quality of communication, quality of focus, and level of consistency. It is particularly aimed at officials who hope to participate in this year's WFTDA Big 5 tournaments.

I am a roller derby skater. Why should my league send our officials to a WFTDA Officiating Clinic?

Good officiating will make your league better. Why? Because penalties matter on game day. If you train with top-level officials on a regular basis, your team will be better prepared for how the game will be called at a tournament or WFTDA-sanctioned level, and your skaters will have a better understanding of the nuances of the WFTDA rules.
