April 9, 2014
The WFTDA released updated team rankings today that include games played through March 31 and reflect adjustments to the Rankings Calculator algorithm.
The WFTDA Rankings Committee developed and tested the new algorithm with input and approval from WFTDA membership. In the new algorithm, the Strength Factor used to determine total game points is now based on a team's ranking points average rather than a team's rank.
Member leagues also voted to make the Rankings Calculator adjustment retroactive to all games played from December 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014 in order to ensure a consistent calculation across all rankings periods in the current Competitive Season, which started December 1, 2013. Due to the change, the rankings released today should be considered a "reset" of rankings and team placements should not be compared head-to-head against the last published rankings.
In addition to the adjustment to the algorithm, the WFTDA membership voted to release rankings publicly on a monthly basis, with the exception of the tournament period. Releases will be now be made nine times a year. Rankings will not be released in August (July 31 ranking period), September (August 30 ranking period) and November (October 31 ranking period), during the Division 1 and 2 Playoffs and Championships.
Details of the new algorithm and release schedule are included in a revised version of the Rankings Calculator document.
