Five-time WFTDA Champions Gotham Girls Roller Derby, of New York, NY, USA, put up decisive wins throughout the final weekend of the 2016 International WFTDA Playoffs series, held in Madison, WI, USA, to take First Place and secure a first-round bye at Championships. Gotham placed second in the 2015 International WFTDA Championships.
Joining Gotham at Championships, held Nov. 4-6, 2016, in Portland, OR, USA, will be the Minnesota RollerGirls (Second Place), of St. Paul, MN, USA, and Arch Rival Roller Derby (Third Place), of St. Louis, MO, USA.
Arch Rival jammer Swanson was named the tournament MVP after helping push her team through two close wins throughout the weekend.

Special thanks go out to tournament hosts Mad Rollin’ Dolls for welcoming the WFTDA community to Madison (for the second time this year).
Following the Playoffs award ceremony, there was a drawing to determine the first round matchups for the Division 1 Championships bracket. In the first round of the Division 1 bracket, a Second Place finisher from one of the four D1 Playoffs will play a Third Place finisher from a different Playoffs location. The winner of those games will advance to play a First Place finisher from yet another Playoffs location.
