August 21, 2016
The teams in WFTDA Division 2 tournaments are always closely matched, but the 2016 International WFTDA D2 Playoffs in Wichita, Kansas, USA, brought about even more nail-biters and seeding upsets than past years. The highest-seeded teams were knocked out of contention and a team rose from the #7 seed to earn a spot in the D2 bracket at the 2016 International WFTDA Championships this fall.
Brandywine Roller Derby of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, USA, won the tournament after starting the weekend as the #4 seed. Close behind them were the second place finishers, Blue Ridge Rollergirls of Asheville, North Carolina, USA, the aforementioned #7 seed. Both teams will advance to Championships, Nov. 4-6 in Portland, Oregon, USA.
Blue Ridge Rollergirls’ Dr. Octopushy, the weekend’s leading scorer, was named the tournament MVP.
If you missed out on any of the action this weekend, check out game photos and recaps in the tournament blog, and watch the game archives on WFTDA.tv later this week.
