Viewers from all over the world will have the chance to view nearly two dozen bouts for free at WFTDA.tv this weekend as skaters from more than 20 leagues from the U.S. and Canada descend on Feasterville, Pa., for the annual East Coast Derby Extravaganza June 22-24 (ECDX).
Hosted by the Philly Roller Girls, ECDX is in now its sixth year, and has grown from a relatively small, East Region-focused tournament to a more inclusive event attracting WFTDA teams from a wider area.
After a successful debut broadcast May 12, WFTDA.tv is proud to continue its early season live coverage with one of the most anticipated ECDX tournaments to date, captured by the video talents of Blaze Streaming Media. Derby fans are eagerly anticipating the ECDX coverage. Viewership of the live May 12 bout topped 2,000 fans and the free archives on WFTDA.tv allowed thousands more to watch on demand in the days and weeks following the bout.
“The East Coast Derby Extravaganza is one of the most amazing events in all of derby—skaters and officials from nearly every level of experience converge to compete and have fun skating on three tracks simultaneously,” says Erica Vanstone, Head of Broadcast Operations for the WFTDA. “WFTDA.tv will be there to broadcast all sanctioned bouts for free. If you can’t be there in person, WFTDA.tv is the next best way to enjoy this action-packed weekend.”
In addition to high-quality video coverage and play-by-play announcer commentary of the two tracks of WFTDA-sanctioned games, for select bouts WFTDA.tv will also offer live stats provided by Rinxter. Certain officiating positions will use this electronic stats-tracking system, feeding up-to-the-minute game data to WFTDA.tv announcers. Fans watching at home can view the Rinxter stats through links on the site.
The ECDX coverage is the latest project undertaken by WFTDA.tv and Blaze Streaming Media, and continues the channel’s commitment to free coverage of bouts throughout the summer and early fall, leading to Playoffs and Championships in September to November. The next scheduled broadcast is The Star of Texas Bowl, a tournament held in Austin, Texas, the weekend of July 21-22.
"WFTDA.tv is incredibly excited to be offering online coverage of ECDX 2012 for free, thanks to a financial investment by WFTDA that was matched by Blaze Media,” said Juliana Gonzales, Executive Director for WFTDA. “I expect we’ll witness a number of competitive matchups, some new storylines unfolding, and sneak peeks at contenders for WFTDA Playoffs and Championships. Please join us on WFTDA.tv to watch the next chapter of WFTDA’s 2012 preseason unfold at ECDX 2012.”
