Boston Derby Dames Hosting Some of New England's Toughest Women

April 24, 2010

BOSTON, MA - If you enjoyed watching Johnny Boychuck knock Matt Ellis into another time zone in Game 3 of the Bruins-Sabres series, then it is very possible that you could quickly become a fan of roller derby.

These girls don't mess around, and if you are in their way, you may end up on your back wondering what just hit you.

The rules are simple ... sort of.

There are two 30-minute halves, and each half is divided into individual jam sessions. Each team has four blockers and one jammer. The jammers are the point-scorers. Every time they pass an opposing team member, their team gets a point. This is when things get interesting -- the girls will do just about anything to keep their competitors from passing them. The result is a fast-paced, entertaining bout between two highly competitive teams.
