WFTDA 2011 West Region Playoffs Day 2 Wrap Up

Day 2 at the WFTDA 2011 West Region Playoffs set up another exciting final round for the second of WFTDA's 2011 Big 5 tournaments. The Rocky Mountain Rollergirls will meet the Oly Rollers in the battle for first place in the West, and both have clinched a spot at 2011 WFTDA Championships, for the second year in a row. Regional rivals Rat City Rollergirls and Rose City Rollers will battle it out for 3rd place in the region, and the third spot at Championships.

Both Rat City and Rose City fought to the last jam of their semifinal matches, giving the two past WFTDA Champions a run for their money. Defending Champs and #2 seed Rocky Mountain held on to a 10-point win over #5 seed Rat City, and will play in the West Region Championship bout on Day 3. A hometown crowd cheered Rose City to another nail-biter in the final game of the evening, but the Oly Rollers were able to pull away from a one-point differential at the half to win 161-132.

In the consolation rounds, Denver easily defeated two opponents to win entry into the 5th and 6th place match on Day 3.

  Angel City Derby Girls 70 (#10)
  Bay Area advanced to play Jet City Rollergirls later in the day; Angel City Derby Girls will play Tucson Roller Derby for 9th place on Day 3.

• Denver Roller Dolls 387 (#3) Tucson Roller Derby 18 (#9)
  Denver advanced to play Sacred City later in the day; Tucson will play Angel City for 9th place on Sunday.

• Rocky Mountain Rollergirls 117 (#2)
  Rat City Rollergirls 107 (#5)
  Rocky Mountain advances to play for #1 in the West; Rat City will play Rose City for 3rd place.

• B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls 302 (#5)
  Jet City Rollergirls 55 (#8)
  Bay Area will play Denver in the 5th place game on Day 3; Jet City Rollergirls will face Sacred City in the 7th place game.

• Denver Roller Dolls 220 (#3)
  Sacred City Derby Girls 59 (#7)
  Denver will play Bay Area in the 5th place game on Day 3; Sacred City Derby Girls will meet Jet City in the 7th place game.

• Oly Rollers 161 (#1)
  Rose City Rollers 132 (#4)
  The Oly Rollers advance to play for 1st place; Rose City will play Rat City for 3rd.
