Game 7 of the Tucson’s D1 Playoffs, featuring Team United Roller Derby of Des Moines, Iowa, vs Arizona Roller Derby (AZRD) of Phoenix, Arizona, was from start to end a fun, fast-paced game played with determination and energy. After losing their bouts yesterday—AZRD falling to Mad Rollin’ Dolls of Madison, WIsconsin, in Game 2 (171-221); Tean United falling to Arch Rival Roller Girls of St Louis, Missouri, in Game 3 (76-241)—both teams brought renewed focus, teamwork, and heart to the track for the first bout of day 2 at the Tucson D1 Playoffs.

Game 6 of the 2015 International WFTDA Playoffs in Tucson, Arizona, reinforced a cardinal rule of successful game play: power jams are deadly.
Before the whistle, one might have expect a relatively close game between Rocky Mountain Rollegirls (RMRG) of Denver, Seed 4 in the Tucson D1 tournament, against Seed 5, Charm City Rollergirls of Baltimore. But that assumption dissolved almost immediately.

The number 1 seed, Victorian Roller Derby League, a heavy favorite at this event, faced off against the Mad Rollin’ Dolls from Madison, Wisconsin. In the first quarterfinal game of the 2015 International WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs in Tucson the 2nd seed Bay Area Derby Girls of Oakland, California met the 7th seed Terminal City Rollergirls of Vancouver, British Columbia. In June Bay Area took a dominant win of 278-75 and won by a similar margin of 251-77 today. Terminal City played a very tough regular season schedule that also included large losses to Rose City, Denver, and Rocky Mountain and a single-point victory over Rat City last month. Both teams put on a defensive showcase, but Bay Area was able to create more effective walls in order to limit Terminal City’s scoring.

Team United Women’s Roller Derby of Urbandale, Iowa, was a bit of a mystery going into its first-ever tournament in its inaugural WFTDA season -- but the Arch Rival Roller Girls of St. Louis, Mo., solved that mystery pretty quickly, posting a 241-76 victory in the third game of the 2015 International WFTDA Division 1 Playoffs Tucson.
