WFTDA will have official representation at the Men's Roller Derby Association (MRDA) championship tournament this weekend, Oct. 22, in Old Bethpage, New York.
In addition to attending the tournament, WFTDA Referee Training and Certification Coordinator Sarah Hipel will meet with the MRDA Director of Officiating, Miss Trial. The meeting will focus on the two organizations' common goals regarding the training and assessment of roller derby officials, as well as potential collaboration in this arena.
WFTDA has developed and expanded its certification and training programs for roller derby officials over the last few years, enabling the organization to develop a cadre of experienced, WFTDA-certified officials. With Hipel's hiring in May, WFTDA aims to improve and streamline its training and certification programs. The third cycle of WFTDA officiating clinics is planned for 2012.
