The Board of Directors of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association has accepted the resignation of Executive Director Juliana Gonzales, who is stepping down to lead another nonprofit organization in Austin, Texas. Juliana has served the organization as the WFTDA’s Executive Director since 2009, before which she served the organization in a number of volunteer positions, including as a member league representative. The Board of Directors and the WFTDA membership thanks her for her tremendous efforts as the association’s first Executive Director and wishes her well in her next role.
“We have all been extremely fortunate to have Juliana as a leader and a colleague over the past six years,” WFTDA President Amanda Hull said. “We thank her for for her time, her passion and her dedication to helping the WFTDA grow.”
Since Juliana joined the WFTDA as an employee in 2009, the organization has grown from a few dozen members in North America to more than 400 members and affiliates on six continents. She has helped the WFTDA grow and evolve by translating skaters’ voices into a cohesive organizational vision -- a core part of the WFTDA’s values. Juliana’s impact has been felt worldwide in the sport of roller derby, as she has motivated hundreds of skaters and volunteers to dedicate their time and energy to furthering women’s flat track roller derby. Her spirit will be missed and she leaves large skates to fill.
Juliana will resign her position as staff at the end of December, and will continue to provide support and guidance throughout the transition process as a contractor. The Board of Directors will begin a search process for the organization’s next Executive Director, who will lead the WFTDA’s next chapter. More details about the position will be made available in the coming months.
