After a series of dominating performances, Victorian Roller Derby League of Melbourne, Australia, will be taking home the 1st Place medals from the 2015 International WFTDA Playoffs in Tucson, Arizona. Though they faced three well-seasoned opponents: the B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls, Rocky Mountain Rollergirls and Mad Rollin’ Dolls, VRDL consistently dominated their opposition with their unique style of braced walls and sure-footed jamming from the likes of Christy Demons, who was named the tournament MVP.
Demons racked up more than 400 points for her team across the weekend’s three games, receiving only one penalty in the process.
Joining VRDL at the WFTDA Championships will be Bay Area, of San Francisco, California, who placed second after an intense, defense-heavy final against VRDL, and the Arch Rival Rollergirls, of St. Louis, Missouri, who took 3rd place after a persistent second half comeback over Rocky Mountain.
If you missed out on some of the incredible displays of athleticism in this first weekend of Division 1 Playoffs, check out game photos and recaps in our tournament blog and keep an eye out later this week for game archives on WFTDA.tv.
