The Women's Flat Track Derby Association and the Men's Roller Derby Association (MRDA) announced the release of a MRDA-branded edition of the Rules of Flat Track Roller Derby. This reflects the most recent step in collaboration between the two independent organizations.
“WFTDA and MRDA are both conscientious that we’re leadership institutions in the sport of flat track roller derby,” said Juliana Gonzales, WFTDA Executive Director. “We wanted to do something to jointly demonstrate our commitment to the consistent, universal, accessible application of the sport."
The MRDA has used WFTDA rules as its official rule set since the organization's inception. WFTDA and MRDA have worked jointly to publish a MRDA edition specifically for men’s roller derby. There are no differences to the rules content between the WFTDA version and the MRDA version. The WFTDA, the international governing body of women’s flat track roller derby, has hundreds of member and affiliate leagues around the world, and the Rules of Flat Track Roller Derby is considered to be the most widely used roller derby rule set in the history of the sport.
Mirroring the WFTDA's implementation date, all sanctioned games of the Men's Roller Derby Association will be played by the newly released rules effective January 1, 2013.
