The final WFTDA Playoffs of 2015, held Oct. 2-4 in Omaha, Nebraska, determined the final three teams to advance to the 2015 International WFTDA Championships next month. At the conclusion of the Playoffs, teams from all four Playoffs learned their bracket placements, which were set by random drawing.
Reigning WFTDA Champions Gotham Girls Roller Derby, of New York, New York, remained undefeated, taking first place in the Omaha bracket and securing a first round bye for Championships. Joining Gotham at Championships will be the Angel City Derby Girls, of Los Angeles, California, and the Minnesota RollerGirls of Saint Paul, Minnesota. As this year’s tournament host, Minnesota had extra motivation to secure their third place win over Montreal Roller Derby and compete for a world title before their home crowd.
Sexy Slaydie with Gotham Girls Roller Derby was named the MVP from the Omaha Playoffs.
Although the top seeds in Omaha all defended their spots, the lower half of the bracket saw upsets and close games, including strong performances all weekend from the No Coast Derby Girls, cheered on by an amped up local crowd from nearby Lincoln, Nebraska.

With the final WFTDA Playoffs of 2015 in the history books, we now know all 12 Division 1 teams and four Division 2 teams that will be competing at Championships. At the conclusion of the Omaha Playoffs, the Championships bracket for the D1 teams was set by random drawing. The winners of each of the four D1 Playoffs get a first round bye, while the 2nd Place team from each playoff bracket faces a 3rd Place finisher from a different playoff bracket. The winner of those games will go on to play a #1 seed from a third playoff bracket.
Watch the seeding announcement:
The four Division 2 teams competing at Championships will each play two games. In the first round, the Kansas City Roller Warriors (Cleveland #1 Seed) will take on the Sacred City Derby Girls (Detroit #2 Seed) and the Nashville Rollergirls (Detroit #1 Seed) will go up against Demolition City Roller Derby (Cleveland #2). The winners of those games will play for the Division 2 Championship and the losers will play for Third Place.
