The WFTDA is excited to announce the first official WFTDA European Tournament from November 14-16, 2014 at the Baltiska Hallen in Malmö, Sweden. The tournament will be hosted by WFTDA member league, the Crime City Rollers. The top ten ranked European WFTDA leagues will be invited to compete in the three-day competition, based on June 30, 2014 WFTDA rankings. The competitive structure for the event will mirror the WFTDA Division 1 and 2 Playoffs bracket.
WFTDA has previously provided support for two European tournaments: Bear City Roller Derby's "Track Queens" in 2012 and Gent Go-Go Roller Girls' "Skate Odyssey" in 2013. Both events served the WFTDA European member and Apprentice leagues as developmental steps to the creation of this new competitive path within the WFTDA.
"This tournament provides an additional WFTDA tournament opportunity for our European member leagues," said Karen Kuhn, Managing Director of Games. "As we grow globally, we acknowledge the need to create localized competitions that run parallel to our current tournaments. We hope to add additional continental tournaments in the future to meet the needs and growth of our Membership."
