The struggle for first place in the West between Rocky Mountain Rollergirls and the Oly Rollers has become a classic rivalry of WFTDA tournament play over the last two years. The rosters for each team haven’t changed much during that time. However, as the 2011 West Region Playoffs played out, one stellar addition to the Oly Rollers’ Cosa Nostra Donnas made her debut on the international roller derby scene: Romina Muse, a.k.a. Stella Italiana.

Now that all four regions' Championships contenders have been determined, WFTDA is pleased to announce the first round seeds for the 2011 WFTDA Championships. The seeding was determined by random drawing on Day 3 of North Central Playoffs.

The third day of the WFTDA North Central Region Playoffs served up another full day of closely matched bouts. Host league Naptown Roller Girls (#4) secured the third spot in the WFTDA Championships after a close win over #2 Detroit Derby Girls. Windy City Rollers secured the #1 seed for the region after fending off a tough challenge from the Minnesota RollerGirls.

The second day of the WFTDA North Central Region Playoffs was packed full of close bouts and upsets. Top seed Windy City Rollers barely held on in their game against Monumental Mayhem hosts, Naptown Roller Girls, to clinch their spot at Championships and advance to the regional championship game on Day 3. The #3 seed, Minnesota Rollergirls upset #2 Detroit Derby Girls in another nail-biter of a match and also earned a Championships berth.

North Central Region Playoffs, the final 2011 Big 5 playoff tournament before Championships in Denver, kicked off with a barn burner, and followed with relatively few surprises.
